DONDERDAG 2 OKTOBER, Haarlem, PHILHARMONIE (Concertgebouw):
Huizen voor Hongaarse weeskinderen - Projecten van de Stichting Sint Stephan
De in Nederland woonachtige, maar in Hongarije geboren graaf Dénes Festetics, nazaat van de illustere Hongaarse cultuurminnende familie Festetics, organiseert op 2 oktober a.s. in het Haarlemse concertgebouw De Philharmonie een benefietconcert ten bate van de stichting Sint Stephan.
Tijdens dit unieke concert zal de Marinierskapel van de Koninklijke Marine te Rotterdam samen met getalenteerde jonge Hongaarse solisten opgeleid aan de Franz Liszt Muziekacademie uit Boedapest een geheel Hongaars programma ten gehore brengen. (Solisten zijn o.a. de cimbaalvirtuoos Sándor Radics en de violisten László Nyári en Attila Ökrös)
De presentatie ligt in handen van Ursul de Geer, bekend van televisie, en begenadigd regisseur van de toneelstukken naar de romans van Sándor Márai.

Informatie over de projecten:
Zoals bij voorgaande projecten het geval was, probeert de Nederlandse Stichting Sint Stephan ook dit keer in samenwerking met de Hongaarse Maltezer Hulpdienst een aantal (pleeg) gezinnen in Hongarije op een veelzijdige manier te helpen. Met name door middel van de aankoop van een aantal woonhuizen voor pleegouders die er zich met hun (grote) pleeggezin kunnen gaan vestigen. Dit zijn kleine-schaalprojecten, die in de praktijk hun nut al goed hebben bewezen. Bij deze projecten blijft niets aan de strijktok hangen: Omdat sponsors garant staan voor de zaalhuur en de organisatiekosten, komen alle baten uit de kaartverkoop regelrecht ten goede aan de projecten.

Ondanks haar jonge leeftijd heeft Tímea een indrukwekkende groep internationale solisten om zich heen weten te verzamelen, die allemaal een deel van hun tijd wijden aan het promoten van haar uitzonderlijke talent. De vertaalster Mari Alfödy van de boeken van Sándor Márai, Imre Kertész en Dezsö Kosztolányi wordt geïnterviewd door Marjan Overdijk, neerlandica en oud-docente aan het Johan de Witt-gymnasium te Dordrecht.
De Hongaarse literatuur beleeft sinds 2000 weer een opleving door het succes van Gloed door Márai. In 2003 werd het boek tot een theatervoorstelling bewerkt en won de voorstelling de Toneel Publieksprijs. Begin 2007 ging de theaterbewerking van Kentering van het huwelijk in première en dit jaar trekt De gravin van Parma volle zalen.
Reden om extra aandacht te besteden aan de Hongaarse literatuur en het vertalen ervan. Hoe gaat een vertaler te werk en wat bezielt de vertaler?
Sándor Márai (1900-1989) is in Nederland de bekendste Hongaarse schrijver. Hij schreef vanaf begin jaren dertig vele romans, verhalen, gedichten, essays en toneelstukken. Márai’s belangrijkste thema’s: het verval van de Hongaarse middenklasse en de onbeheersbare drijfveren van de mens. In 1948 ontvluchtte hij zijn land vanwege het communisme. Zijn boeken werden in Hongarije verboden en verschenen vrijwel onopgemerkt in het buitenland. In 1990 werd Gloed opnieuw in het Hongaars uitgebracht en in veel talen vertaald.
Imre Kertész (1929) is een Joods – Hongaars schrijver en won in 2002 de Nobelprijs voor literatuur. In zijn autobiografische roman Onbepaald door het lot bewerkte hij zijn ervaringen in de concentratiekampen en kreeg internationale erkenning. Hij woont in Duistland en schrijft nog steeds in het Hongaars en zijn boeken worden vertaald in diverse talen.
Dezsö Kosztolányi (1885-1936) is beroemd geworden als dichter, novellist, romanschrijver en vertaler. Het laatst verschenen werk heet Belevenissen van Kornél Esti.
Over de vertaler: Mari Alfödy woont sinds jonge leeftijd in Nederland, waar zij klassieke talen en Hongaars studeerde. Sinds 1998 werkt zij voornamelijk als literair vertaler. In 2004 ontving zij de Kosztolányi-prijs, een Hongaarse vertaalprijs.
